Role - general description

The role will mainly focus on the development of energy strategies, the provision of energy consultancy advice and model ling of buildings using IES Virtual Environment, and SAP including Part L, EPC , TM52, TM59 and Daylight Modelling. Projects will include both new build and refurbished schemes of different uses. The role will require in-depth technical knowledge of building physics in addition to exemplar interpersonal, organisational, presentation and management skills. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to the development of the business through involvement in writing fee proposals and fostering business relationships with both existing and new clients.

Responsibilities - Technical

The The successful candidate is expected to have sufficient knowledge and project experience in the field of low carbon design and energy modelling. Technical responsibilities will include the following:

  • Develop low-carbon energy strategies for new and refurbished buildings, covering HVAC, lighting, passive design and overall demand reduction.

  • Develop decarbonisation options, advising on the relative impact, effectiveness and feasibility of design measures using modelling, benchmarking and scenario analysis.

  • Anticipate and evaluate building performance through strong data analysis skills, benchmarking against industry standards and identifying opportunities to optimise energy and carbon outcomes.

  • Undertake dynamic simulation modelling using IES VE including :

- Part L and EPC (non domestic)

- Thermal modelling to assess indoor environmental conditions including CIBSE TM52 59 and Part O modelling .

- Daylight modelling using IES Radiance.

- Modelling of natural ventilation strategies using IES Macroflo.

  • Develop SAP modelling to assess Part L and EPC compliance of domestic buildings .

  • Maintain knowledge of low carbon technologies and design strategies with a particular focus on Net Zero Carbon.

  • Develop technical reports and produce calculations in line with project needs.

  • Present energy modelling results to a non-technical audience.

  • Support QA processes under guidance from senior team members .

  • Attend site to undertake energy audits.

  • Development of standards and assessment procedures to continuously improve the efficiency and quality of Twin&Earth’s services.

Responsibilities - General

  • Agree level of service and project outputs with your line m anager for each project, including understanding the scope, timescales and target profitability of each project. 

  • Coordinate with project team members – both internally and externally.

  • Attend project meetings as required and present findings / progress reports.

  • Oversight of projects and tasks assigned to you including resourcing, project delivery, project team input , client communications and project budgets.

  • Assist with developing project fee proposals and attend project interviews and presentations as required.

  • Report to Twin&Earth’s project lead s and line manage r on costs and progress.

  • Support, assist and deputise to other members of Twin&Earth as workload and/or circumstances require.

  • Support and guide junior staff as part of collaborative project work .

  • Maintain excellent client and team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.

  • Support the identification of new business opportunities and contribute to proposal development.

  • Champion sustainability on behalf of Twin&Earth through active participation in relevant industry groups, development and/or coordination of thought pieces and presentations to the wider industry.

Qualifications/experience/skills

The individual undertaking this role is expected to have the following skills:

  • Have a relevant science or engineering degree (e.g Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or Architectural Engineering)

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a related role.

  • Working knowledge, experience and/ or qualifications in building energy modelling packages including IES Virtual Environment and SAP.

  • Knowledge and experience of compliance modelling (Part L and EPC) and overheating modelling (TM52 , 59 and Part O ).

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and controls .

  • Knowledge and experience of energy efficient building design and specification.

  • Good understanding of the policy and regulatory landscape relating to sustainable buildings and building energy in the UK.

  • Good experience of front line (face to face) delivery to customers.

  • Clear communicator – comfortable with presenting to an audience (both written and verbally) on both technical and non-technical matters.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, independently and as a team member or leader.

  • Good experience of analysing complex data using Excel.

  • Highly motivated, customer focused and wil ling to take on new challenges.

  • Ability to contribute to team working and collective objectives.

 

Desirable skills/qualifications:

  • Qualified to produce domestic EPCs (Elmhurst SAP assessor).

  • Qualified to produce non-domestic EPCs (LCEA Levels 3, 4 & 5).

  • Qualified as a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant.

  • Interest in application of AI tools, python or IES APIs to improve the quality and speed of energy modelling.

  • Knowledge of CIBSE TM54 methodology.

  • Knowledge of NABERS Design for Performance methodology.

  • Knowledge of IES ApacheHVAC modelling .

  • Knowledge and experience of Ashea 90.1 Energy Modelling.

  • Knowledge and experience of Passivhaus and/or Ener PHit standards.
